"Mommy, what are you cooking today?
"Apple wheels, Lilly"
"What...Apple wheels, what´s that?"
I notice, that I left out quite a few things during the culinary education of my kids."
“My mother used to make those for me. Apple slices dipped in batter and then fried in hot fat. "
"That sounds awful."
"No, no, that's really wonderful, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and slightly sweet and at the same time a bit sour ..."
"Mommy, please decide. I will make myself a sandwich."
"Lilly, this is a clear case of prejudice - you have to try something first and then judge."
"Aha, that's kind of like the pork-crust-flavored chips you refused yesterday, right?"
I walked off in silence and started peeling the apples. Sometimes you have to accept that a conversation has hit a dead end.

Ingredients for 4 servings

6 apples
120 g flour
2 eggs
125 ml milk
1 tbsp of sugar
1 pinch of salt
150 ml oil

preparation time 40 minutes

level of difficulty 1

core case cutter
cutting board
fork or pliers
kitchen paper

Peel, core and slice the apples.

Mix the flour and the milk with a whisk, add the eggs, salt and sugar and mix into a smooth dough.

Heat the oil in a pan, hold the apple slices with a fork or pliers and dip them into the batter. Bake in the oil until golden on both sides.

Drain the finished apple wheels briefly on a plate with kitchen paper and serve sprinkled with icing sugar and cinnamon. Maybe enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
